The door opens, we take our first step inside and take a deep breath. And suddenly, we’re in Bali. Well, almost.

Because we’re actually right in the middle of Hesse. But the scent, the light colours, the Asian-inspired interior and all the little boho details make our brains apparently decide within about three seconds that we’ve gone on a little getaway. Instant holiday mode.
That’s exactly what arriving at My Shambala felt like.

We were actually just looking for a nice place to stay for one night near Frankfurt. Instead of a regular overnight stay, we found a little boho paradise surrounded by nature. And that’s exactly why I had to share this special place with you.

Arrive and Instantly Slip into Holiday Mode

The holiday home My Shambala is located on a beautiful country estate surrounded by nature. The peaceful setting automatically makes you slow down a little. No hustle and bustle, no traffic noise and, above all, plenty of nature.
For your stay, I’d definitely recommend having a car. It gives you the freedom to explore the surrounding area easily while also making getting to and from the property much more convenient.

We were given a very warm welcome by our host, who first showed us around the house. Right away, we noticed how consistently the Asian-inspired style runs throughout the entire property. Balinese and Asian elements, warm colours, unique pieces of furniture and carefully chosen decorations create an atmosphere that really does feel a little like being on holiday in Southeast Asia.
And that’s exactly what we found so special about it. Outside, you’re still very clearly in the middle of Hesse, but step inside and suddenly it feels surprisingly far away.

A Boho Oasis in the Heart of Hesse

There are holiday homes that are beautifully decorated. And then there are places where you keep stopping because you spot another beautiful detail. My Shambala definitely falls into the second category.

There are little touches everywhere that add to the Asian and boho-inspired style. From unique lamps and pieces of furniture to decorative details that give the house its own character.
Nothing feels overdone or like it has been taken straight from a homeware catalogue. Somehow, everything just works together, and that’s exactly what makes the house feel so cosy.

Plenty of Space for a Relaxing Getaway

Even though there were only two of us, this holiday home offers plenty of space. There are four individually designed guest rooms in total, making it a great option for a getaway with family or friends.

We particularly liked the two spacious bathrooms. The one on the ground floor is almost like a little wellness retreat of its own. With a large rainfall shower and a sauna, it’s pretty easy to forget about everyday life for a while.
There’s also a second bathroom upstairs, which is especially practical when travelling with a larger group.

There were only two of us, but we still made good use of the rainfall shower. If you’re going to do it, you might as well do it properly.

Our Evening at My Shambala

After we arrived, we took some time to settle in and make ourselves comfortable. It quickly became clear that we weren’t going to make any big plans for the evening. Instead, we cooked dinner in the well-equipped kitchen and slowly wound down after the day.

We had originally planned to sit outside afterwards. The large terrace with its long dining table, barbecue and fire pit seemed perfect for it. In my head, I already had the evening all figured out: sitting outside, having a drink, maybe lighting a fire and simply winding down.
Well, the weather clearly had other ideas

There were little rain showers coming and going, and it was pretty windy too. So our cosy evening outside quickly turned into a cosy evening indoors. And honestly, that wasn’t a bad plan at all.
We made ourselves comfortable on the sofa, watched a film and later lit the fireplace. While it was getting rather unpleasant outside, it was just perfect inside.
Sometimes you don’t need a perfect summer evening. A fireplace will do just fine.

A Peaceful Night and a Slow Morning

We slept in the large bedroom upstairs. The Asian-inspired style continues here too, creating a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere together with the peaceful setting. But most of all, the bed was so comfortable that we were in no hurry to get up the next morning.

We took it nice and slow from there. With coffee and juice, we eased into the morning before heading out for breakfast. We found a lovely spot for breakfast outside the accommodation and then spent some time exploring the area around My Shambala.

My Shambala: Wellness, Yoga and Holistic Treatments

If you want to do more than just enjoy the beautiful setting at My Shambala and really use your stay to slow down and focus on yourself, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Alongside the sauna and rainfall shower in the house, there are various options for wellness, relaxation and holistic treatments. These include massages and sound massages, as well as other treatments that can be booked during your stay. So, with a little planning, your stay can quickly turn into a little wellness weekend in Hesse.

There’s also the option to practise yoga and use the peaceful surroundings for meditation or other mindful activities. The large garden is perfect for this. The My Shambala seminar house is also designed for retreats, yoga, meditation and workshops.

What I particularly like is that you can create your own kind of getaway here. If you fancy a massage, yoga session or sound treatment, you can simply add them to your stay. But if all you want is some peace and quiet, you can just spend the whole day at the holiday home and do absolutely nothing.

Hot Tub, Garden and Plenty of Space to Unwind

There’s plenty to discover outside as well.

The large garden fits perfectly with the natural feel of the rest of the property. One of the highlights is the hot tub, which can be booked as an extra. The idea of sitting there in the warm water in the evening, with nothing but nature and maybe a few stars around you, definitely has something special about it.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t try it during our stay because of the weather. It was simply too windy, with little rain showers coming and going throughout the day. Instead, we were even more grateful for the fireplace.

The large terrace is also a lovely spot to relax. There’s a long dining table, a barbecue and a fire pit, so on a warm evening, you could easily spend the whole night out here.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get the right weather for it. But maybe that’s a good reason to come back.

A Wonderful Stay Comes to an End

Eine Nacht bei My Shambala war für uns definitiv zu kurz. Nicht, weil wir unbedingt noch zehn Sehenswürdigkeiten hätten abhaken wollen. Ganz im Gegenteil. Wir hätten einfach gerne noch ein bisschen mehr Zeit im Haus verbracht. Noch einmal die Regendusche und in die Sauna. Noch ein Abend am Kamin. Beim nächsten Mal vielleicht auch ein Abend an der Feuerschale und eine Runde im Hot Tub, wenn das Wetter mitspielt.

Und natürlich noch ein bisschen mehr Zeit für die Umgebung. Denn genau dafür ist My Shambala für uns perfekt: als kleine Auszeit vom Alltag, als besonderes Ferienhaus in Hessen und als Ort, an dem man für ein paar Tage das Gefühl bekommt, ziemlich weit weg zu sein. Nur ohne zwölf Stunden Flug.

Exploring the Area Around My Shambala

Of course, we didn’t spend our entire stay at My Shambala in the holiday home. Especially if you’re staying for a few days, it’s worth exploring a little of the surrounding area too. We checked out a few lovely spots that are easy to combine with a stay at My Shambala.

Grünberg: A Charming Old Town and a Very Deep Well

Our first tip is Grünberg. This charming little town has a lovely historic old town filled with half-timbered houses, winding lanes and a pretty market square. It’s perfect for simply strolling around without turning the day into a full-on sightseeing mission.
The market square is also home to the historic market fountain. At 36 metres deep, it’s actually a pretty impressive hole in the ground. Groundwater was drawn here until around 1500, before the fountain was eventually forgotten. It was rediscovered during construction work in 1980.

For breakfast, we had originally planned to try Sonne & Mond, right on the market square. The café seemed like a perfect fit for our little outing. Unfortunately, we were a bit unlucky with our timing. Mondays are apparently a popular day off in Grünberg, and some cafés and restaurants were either closed for the day or taking their summer break.
Our first choice, as well as Anjess MärchenCafé, were both closed. So, it was time for Plan B.

An Easygoing Breakfast

So we ended up at Bäckerei Künkel, just a few minutes by car from My Shambala. And you know what? For a simple, no-fuss breakfast, it turned out to be a really good alternative.
Sometimes you don’t need a fancy breakfast café. A good coffee, some juice and something tasty on your plate are more than enough to get the day started.

Grünberg and the XXL Wooden Marble Run

Grünberg is also a lovely place for a little walk. And if you’re travelling with kids, head to the Brunnental, where you can try out the XXL wooden marble run. The wooden ball travels through seven stations along a route of more than 400 metres.

Hungener Käsescheune: Cheese, Good Food and a Little Taste of Country Life

If you’re looking for a special foodie stop in the area, you could also make a little detour to the Hungener Käsescheune. As you might have guessed, cheese is the star of the show here, but there’s also regional cuisine, breakfast and various cheese experiences on offer. Especially if you’re a cheese lover, this sounds like a pretty good place to add to your itinerary.

Laubach: Castle, Park and a Charming Old Town

Laubach is also very close by and makes a lovely little day trip. We particularly enjoyed the historic castle and the small, charming old town with its winding streets and old houses.
The spacious castle park is another highlight. It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll, wandering along the pond or simply stopping for a little break. For families, there’s also a large playground, so the younger visitors can have some fun too.

LaWa Beach Club: Boho Vibes at Langener Waldsee

If you’re in the mood for a little beach feeling, a trip to LaWa Beach Club at Langener Waldsee is also worth considering. It’s a little further from My Shambala, but works well as part of a day trip towards Frankfurt.
With soft sand, comfortable loungers, boho-style parasols and the lake, it genuinely feels a bit like being on holiday. We especially loved the relaxed boho vibes, which fit perfectly with the style of My Shambala.

Of course, there’s plenty more to discover around My Shambala and in the direction of Frankfurt. If you’d like to combine your stay with more activities, sights or experiences, here are a few more ideas to check out.

We would recommend not planning too much, though. Especially at My Shambala, we think taking some time to simply do nothing is definitely part of the experience.

Our Conclusion: My Shambala

For us, My Shambala is exactly the kind of place where you quickly feel at home and find yourself wishing you could stay a little longer. We especially loved the thoughtful details, the unique style and the wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

We originally just wanted to enjoy a lovely little getaway. Instead, at some point we seriously started wondering whether you could simply rent a holiday home like this on a permanent basis.
So, if you’re looking for a special escape in Hesse, we’d definitely choose My Shambala again.
