Lighthouse in Corsica: An Unusual Holiday Home

Peace, sea views and a little lighthouse right outside the door. The “Lighthouse Room” at La Chiappa in southern Corsica is definitely not your typical accommodation.
Tucked away on a hill overlooking the sea, it feels a little like you’ve escaped from the rest of the world for a few days. No hustle and bustle, barely any phone reception and no Wi-Fi. Instead, there’s nature, views of the Mediterranean and a pretty spectacular starry sky in the evening.
And then, of course, there’s the lighthouse.

I quickly realised that this combination is exactly what makes the place so special. Even though Porto-Vecchio and some of the most beautiful beaches in southern Corsica are not far away, this little retreat feels wonderfully secluded.

The Little Cottage by La Chiappa Lighthouse

The cosy little cottage is located right next to the historic La Chiappa Lighthouse and is part of the Domaine de Chiterbio. The owners describe it as an experience inspired by the life of a lighthouse keeper. And honestly, I can’t think of a much better way to put it.

The little holiday home sits right next to the lighthouse and offers a private little retreat with a bedroom, living room and bathroom. The location is already pretty special from the outside. But I only really understood its charm once I arrived.

Secluded on the Hill with Sea Views

The Lighthouse Room is quietly tucked away on the hill, surrounded by the Corsican maquis and with beautiful views over the sea. It’s wonderfully peaceful up here, with no traffic noise, no constant coming and going and, above all, no crowds.
Things are pretty quiet digitally too. There’s no Wi-Fi in the Lighthouse Room and mobile reception is very limited. So if you like to be constantly connected even on holiday, it’s definitely something to keep in mind.

For me, though, that was actually a plus. You can simply put your phone away for a while and focus on the really important things instead. Watching the sea, drinking coffee, sitting outside. You know, all those really difficult holiday tasks.

A Little Home Right by the Lighthouse

Inside, the Lighthouse Room is cosy and compact. It has a small living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom with a toilet and shower.

I particularly loved the bedroom. From the bed, you can look straight out at the lighthouse. It’s one of those little details you don’t necessarily need, but that suddenly makes a place feel really special.
During the day, the lighthouse is simply part of the scenery. In the evening, though, the whole setting takes on a completely different atmosphere.

When the Lighthouse Comes to Life at Night

As soon as it gets dark, the lighthouse light comes on. And that’s when it gets really special.
Sitting outside and watching the lighthouse regularly sweep its light across the coast, with a clear starry sky above and nothing but peace and quiet all around, feels pretty magical.
Especially because you’re not standing at some viewpoint somewhere. You’re simply sitting outside your own little cottage, enjoying the view with a glass of wine in hand.

My Favourite Spots Are Outside

As cosy as the cottage is, you’ll probably want to spend a good part of your stay outside. Right next to the lighthouse, there’s a spacious outdoor area with several spots to sit back and relax.

The Outdoor Kitchen

My personal highlight was the outdoor kitchen. I have a soft spot for a good outdoor kitchen anyway, and this one fits the setting perfectly. Cooking and eating outside, with views of the sea and nothing but nature all around. You really don’t need much more than that.

The Sun Terrace with Sea Views

There’s also a little sun terrace overlooking the sea. With cosy cushions, it’s the perfect spot to get comfortable. Read a book, have a coffee, soak up the sun or simply watch the sea. You really don’t need much of a plan up here.

The Outdoor Shower and Seating Area

Also you can find an outdoor shower, as well as another seating area right in front of the cottage. In the evening, this is one of my favourite spots to sit outside. And when the lighthouse is shining and the first stars start to appear, it’s simply so beautiful that you’ll want to stay there forever.

A Little Path Down to the Sea

From the cottage, a little path leads down to a small bay by the sea. Don’t expect a classic sandy beach here, though. The bay is rather rocky and pebbly.
It’s still a lovely little walk down to the water and a nice spot to get a closer look at the sea.

Camping La Chiappa: Even More to Enjoy Just Down the Hill

If you’re staying at the Lighthouse Room, you can also make use of the facilities at La Chiappa at the foot of the hill, as it’s owned by the same people. La Chiappa is a naturist campsite and resort right by the sea, covering around 60 hectares and offering beaches, pools, restaurants, wellness facilities and plenty of activities.

As a guest of the little Lighthouse Cottage, you don’t have to be nude yourself to use the facilities. And even at the campsite, many guests are often dressed when they’re in the restaurant, supermarket or other communal areas.

Up at the cottage, you have your peaceful little retreat surrounded by nature. Down at La Chiappa, there are plenty of options if you’re in the mood for a little more action and don’t mind coming across the occasional unclothed guest.

Beaches, Pools and Water Sports

La Chiappa has two naturist beaches and two large pools overlooking the sea, one of which is heated. There are also plenty of water sports on offer, including sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking and boat rentals. There’s even a diving centre on site.
If you prefer to stay on dry land, you can play tennis, volleyball, mini golf or pétanque. Since 2026, there’s also a new padel court and additional fitness areas. For slower days, there are yoga and relaxation classes, massages and a sauna.

There’s Plenty of Good Food Too

If you don’t feel like cooking every evening, La Chiappa has plenty of options. There are several places to eat, including restaurants with sea views and a snack bar. There’s also a well-stocked mini market with groceries and everyday essentials.
I tried the restaurant right on the beach and really enjoyed the food and the beautiful sea views.
And if you suddenly find yourself desperately in need of Wi-Fi, that’s not a problem either. While things stay pleasantly offline up at the lighthouse, you can use the free Wi-Fi down at La Chiappa.

There are also a few more great options nearby if you’re in the mood to treat yourself. Just a few minutes by car from the lighthouse, you’ll find Marina Darje, a restaurant and beach bar where you can enjoy a good drink, grab something to eat or even rent a jet ski next door.
A few minutes further on is Casa Cantina, a lovely spot for a relaxed evening with Corsican cuisine and delicious dishes cooked over an open fire. Add a cosy atmosphere and regular live music, and it’s the perfect place to settle in for a long evening.

Domaine de Chiterbio: Another Heartfelt Project

During my stay, I also had the chance to visit Domaine de Chiterbio. The owner personally showed me around the property and told me more about its history.
The estate is another project by the same owner and is located near Porto-Vecchio. Today, the private grounds cover around 80 hectares and are home to several beautifully restored Bergeries surrounded by the Corsican maquis.

What I particularly loved was how individually each accommodation is designed. The old stone houses have been lovingly restored, combining their original character with modern comforts.
The reception area at the estate is anything but ordinary, either. There’s a little treehouse that’s not only used for check-in. Guests can also hang out there and enjoy a drink at the small bar.
It’s exactly these kinds of details that I love about special places to stay. It’s not just about having a beautiful room. It’s about enjoying a place with its own personality and atmosphere.

So, if you don’t necessarily want to sleep right next to a lighthouse but are still looking for an unusual place to stay surrounded by nature, Domaine de Chiterbio is definitely worth a look. You can find the current accommodations and more information directly at Domaine de Chiterbio & Villas.

The Most Beautiful Beaches Around the Lighthouse Cottage

Even though the lighthouse is the perfect place to enjoy some peace and quiet, it would of course be a shame not to visit some of the famous beaches in southern Corsica during your stay.

From La Chiappa, you can easily reach beaches such as Palombaggia, Plage d’Acciaju and Santa Giulia. Palombaggia is one of the most famous beaches in southern Corsica, with white sand, turquoise water and the characteristic pine trees that make Corsica’s coastline so beautiful.
I was especially taken with the easternmost part of the beach, where you’ll find the La Paillote beach bar. Plage d’Acciaju, with the Le Dune beach restaurant, is also high on my list. But honestly, pretty much everywhere around here is ridiculously beautiful.

Exploring Porto-Vecchio and the Surrounding Area

Porto-Vecchio is only about 15 minutes away by car and makes for a lovely little day trip. The old town, with its narrow streets, restaurants and shops, is easy to combine with a day at the beach or a visit to La Chiappa.
This means you can easily mix things up during your stay. A stroll through the old town, a day by the sea, a day in the mountains and, in between, heading back to the lighthouse. A pretty good mix. Actually, pretty much perfect.

My Conclusion: The Lighthouse Cottage in Corsica

The Lighthouse Cottage is one of those places you don’t simply book as somewhere to sleep. You book an experience.
Its location on the hill, the sea views, the outdoor kitchen, the peace and quiet, and of course the lighthouse right next door make this place truly special.

My personal highlight, though, was the evening. Sitting outside, watching the stars and seeing the lighthouse regularly sweep its light across the sea, with that incredible sense of peace all around you. It doesn’t get much more Corsica than that.
And if you do feel like having a beach day, going out for dinner, enjoying some wellness or simply having a little more going on, La Chiappa campsite is just a short walk down the hill.
