Corsica: 5 Unique & Unusual Places to Stay

Corsica is known for its turquoise waters, wild coastlines, charming mountain villages and plenty of French savoir vivre. But when it comes to places to stay, the island has quite a few surprises up its sleeve, too.

If a classic hotel room isn’t really your cup of tea, Corsica has some pretty extraordinary places to stay up its sleeve. Think stylish domes with sea views, tiny cabins tucked away in nature, cosy caravans surrounded by greenery, and even a former shepherd’s hut right next to a lighthouse.

For me, places like these are the secret ingredient that makes a trip extra special. Because sometimes it’s not just the destination that makes a journey memorable, but also the place where you close the door behind you at the end of the day.

I’m sharing five unique places to stay in Corsica that are definitely more than just a bed for the night.

Sleeping in a Boho Dome with Sea Views

The three domes at Domaine de Sonia are a real eye-catcher as soon as you arrive. Still, the real wow moment for me came when I opened the door to my dome. Inside, they feel surprisingly spacious and offer much more room than you might expect from the outside.

I was still on Corsica, of course, but somehow, the moment I stepped inside, I felt like I had landed somewhere between Ibiza, Mykonos, Bali and Tulum. Lots of boho vibes, a touch of luxury, plenty of nature and that incredible sense of peace and quiet. That mix completely won me over.

I stayed in the Zingarabella Dome, a roughly 40-square-metre dome with its own outdoor area and almost 180-degree sea views. Each of the three domes has its own individual style, combining extraordinary glamping with plenty of comfort. They come with a private bathroom, a cosy sleeping area, a small kitchenette with a fridge and coffee machine, and a private terrace.

What stayed with me most was the absolute peace and quiet. And then there’s that view. You sit there, look out and realise you actually have everything you need for a little escape right in front of you.
I also slept incredibly well, by the way. The bed was super comfortable and, if you’re willing to get up early enough, you can even watch the sunrise right from bed. For once, it’s genuinely worth setting the alarm.

The special atmosphere is just as lovely in the morning. In front of the dome, there’s a small dining area, and if you like, you can have a breakfast basket filled with local products delivered straight to your accommodation. It includes Corsican specialities, fresh bread, croissants, cheese and other regional goodies. I still had a few things in the fridge, which I added to the mix.

The Domaine also features a shared pool and a range of additional experiences, including Corsican tasting platters and romantic arrangements. Behind the concept are Sonia and Cyrille, who have turned their shared love of Corsica, nature and local products into this unique accommodation experience.

My personal highlight? Definitely that first moment after opening the door. Of course, you know you’re staying in a special dome. But I was still surprised by just how spacious, cosy and atmospheric it actually feels inside. It was simply a dreamy stay!

Sleeping Under the Stars Near Ajaccio

If you prefer things a little more rustic when you travel and don’t need every modern comfort, this little nature cabin could be a real highlight. Designed for two people, it sits right in the middle of nature. It’s less about having every possible amenity and more about experiencing the landscape in the most direct and authentic way.

The real highlight is the large movable doors and the roof, which can also be opened. Depending on the weather, you can almost completely open the cabin up to its surroundings. From the bed, you have views across the bay and the mountains. At night, it becomes the perfect spot for stargazing.

For me, it was a truly magical experience. At the same time, it’s worth knowing what you’re getting yourself into. The little cabin is all about being immersed in nature, which also means being a little dependent on the weather. On a rainy or particularly windy night, the open concept is naturally a very different experience from a warm summer evening.

You should also be reasonably fit and sure-footed. The path to the accommodation leads down a steep slope, and the steps are currently still quite basic and, in places, a little makeshift. The property is set to be further developed and decorated in the future.
What I already love, though, is the open-air bathroom. The freestanding bathtub overlooking the surrounding nature was definitely a proper treat.

There’s intentionally no electricity or Wi-Fi here. Instead, you’re provided with batteries, a power bank, a flashlight and the essentials you need for your stay. Back to basics! It’s the perfect opportunity for a little digital detox. In the evening, solar lights bathe the cabin in a cosy glow.
A small breakfast box is also included as part of the stay. I also found the provided empty cool box really handy. I had picked up a few extra snacks and drinks, and with some ice, everything stayed nicely chilled overnight, ready for the evening and the next morning.
It’s exactly this mix of adventure, nature and keeping things beautifully simple that makes this place so special to me.

My personal highlight? Besides the open roof and the amazing views over the bay and the night sky, it was definitely the open-air bathroom. Being able to shower, take a bath and simply spend as much time as possible outdoors throughout my stay felt incredibly special.

Sleeping Right Next to the Chiappa Lighthouse in Corsica

It doesn’t get much more unusual than the Lighthouse Room* right next to the historic Chiappa Lighthouse near Porto-Vecchio. The tiny holiday home is housed in a former Corsican shepherd’s hut and offers around 25 square metres of space for two people.

From the accommodation and its terrace, you have direct views of the sea and the Cerbicale Islands. On a clear day, you can even see as far as Sardinia. One of my favourite features was the really well-equipped outdoor kitchen with a fridge and plancha. There’s also a lovely sun deck and even an outdoor shower.
And the best part? You can actually see the lighthouse right from bed. That view alone makes this place pretty special.
A private path also leads you to a small, secluded cove in about ten minutes.

Good to know: There’s no Wi-Fi here, and mobile reception is also pretty limited. So if you absolutely need to stay connected, it’s worth keeping this in mind. For everyone else, it’s probably just one of the best parts of the experience.

The Lighthouse Room is especially magical in the evening. On a clear night, you can watch the stars beautifully from here. And when the lighthouse beam sweeps across the bay, this already special place takes on a whole new kind of magic.

The surrounding area has plenty to offer, too. A private path takes you to a small, secluded cove in about ten minutes. The famous Palombaggia Beach is also just a short drive away, while Porto-Vecchio can be reached in around 15 minutes.

My personal highlight? Waking up to the lighthouse right outside your window and watching its beam sweep across the bay in the evening. Add the sea views, the stars and that amazing outdoor kitchen, and it really doesn’t get much more Corsican than this.

Domaine au cœur du maquis: Staying in a Wooden Caravan

The Domaine au cœur du maquis is tucked away in the heart of the Corsican maquis in the Gravona Valley, around 20 minutes from Ajaccio. Here, you can stay in a lovingly converted wooden caravan set on the hosts’ property.

And the property itself is almost just as interesting as the accommodation. The owner, Paul, has been gradually transforming it in his spare time, creating a rather unique mix of nature, antiques and little treasures he has collected along the way. Everything feels incredibly personal and, most importantly, nothing like a typical holiday park.

Between the old objects and thoughtful little details, there’s plenty to discover. The property is also home to animals such as chickens and donkeys. During my stay, I could even pick fresh tomatoes right outside the caravan. It doesn’t get much more connected to nature than that.

The wooden caravan itself is small but cosy, with a bedroom, private bathroom, small kitchen and dining area. Outside, there’s a private terrace beneath the oak trees, with views of the mountains and the beautiful Corsican landscape.

You’re also welcomed with a little breakfast featuring homemade jam, orange juice, coffee, tea and Corsican canistrelli. If you want to make your stay even more special, you can book a private wellness area with a jacuzzi and, if you like, add a Corsican cheese and charcuterie board and a bottle of wine.

You can also easily prepare your own meals in the well-equipped little kitchen inside the caravan. At the same time, there are several places to eat in the surrounding area. One particularly lovely spot is the river swimming area near Restaurant Paillote Andrea, which is perfect for a little outing. The A Cupulatta tortoise park is also just around the corner and is absolutely worth a visit.

My personal highlight? Definitely the property itself, with all its unique little places to stay and the lovely pool overlooking the mountains. Paul has created a place that is constantly evolving, which makes it feel incredibly personal. Add the animals, the surrounding nature and the chance to simply pick your own tomatoes for dinner, and you have a truly special place to stay.

A Cosy Wooden Chalet with a Private Jacuzzi in Corsica

To finish things off, we’re going for something a little simpler, but also wonderfully uncomplicated. This little wooden chalet is part of CasaEva Residence, around three kilometres from the centre of Porto-Vecchio and close to Cala Rossa and Saint-Cyprien.

What I particularly love about this place is that the chalet sits on its own at the edge of the driveway to the residence. So instead of being surrounded by a row of identical little cabins, you have a single accommodation with plenty of private outdoor space. It makes the whole stay feel much more personal and individual.

The chalet itself is designed for two people and kept fairly simple. What it lacks in indoor space, it more than makes up for with a generous terrace of around 50 square metres, complete with sun loungers, a shaded dining area, an outdoor shower and, of course, your own private jacuzzi. After a day spent exploring the beaches and surroundings of Porto-Vecchio, it’s the perfect place to wind down in the evening.

The “kitchen” is set up for simple self-catering rather than elaborate cooking. There’s no full kitchen with everything you might need for a big dinner. Instead, you’ll find a few basic kitchen essentials for preparing simple meals. For breakfast, a quick snack or an easy dinner, though, it’s more than enough. And if you’d rather eat out, there are of course plenty of options around Porto-Vecchio.

You won’t have to give up the comforts of a proper holiday home, though. There’s electricity, air conditioning, a private bathroom and, of course, your own jacuzzi. In winter, the sauna can also be used for an additional fee. There’s also a lovely shared pool at the residence, giving you another option for cooling off and enjoying a relaxing day without having to leave.

If you want to make your stay a little more varied, you can book a range of experiences directly through the residence. These include massages, catamaran trips, sunset tours, Jeep excursions into the mountains and tours with locals to some of the island’s lesser-known spots.

My personal highlight? The combination of the small, individual chalet, the huge private terrace and the jacuzzi. It’s not a luxury villa, and that’s not what this little chalet is trying to be. Instead, you get a very special retreat for two, where you can make yourself perfectly comfortable with a few simple things.

My Conclusion: Corsica has some pretty amazing and unique places to stay

What I love most about Corsica is its incredible variety. And you don’t just find it in the landscapes and beaches, but in the accomodations you can stay, too.

Whether it’s a sea-view glamping dome, a completely open-air cabin, a little holiday home right next to a lighthouse, a wooden caravan in the middle of the maquis or a chalet with a private jacuzzi, each of these places to stay has a character of its own.
That’s exactly why I find unique places to stay so fascinating. They’re not simply somewhere you return to after a day at the beach. They become part of the journey itself.

And more often than not, the place you stay really does end up being one of the highlights of the trip.
